For those of you who are new to my campaign I am proud to be running in this race as a Republican. I am a conservative, both fiscally and socially, and I am also considered a catalyst -a leader who identifies opportunities and then brings the people and resources together to create positive change. I make decisions, I take calculated risks, I motivate people, I get things done. That’s the way it works in the business world and it is important that you understand I am a businessman, not a politician. I aspire to the Legislature, not to politics.

I aspire to represent you in Michigan’s Senate partially because a group of my friends, local business owners, Faith and community leaders, came to me and asked me if I would take on this responsibility. They pointed out that I had been gifted with skills and abilities which are critical to the tasks at hand and they pointed out that if we don’t make a change we would be looking at four more years of economic morass, business loss and personal devastation. I couldn’t let that happen if it were in my power to change it, and they knew that.

More importantly though, I aspire to represent you because I cannot stand by and watch my friends lose their businesses, my neighbors lose their farms and homes and the citizens of this district lose their jobs, their means of sustenance and their dignity. We can do better, we must do better, we will do better!

Even though this is my first run for public office I’m no stranger to the mechanics of our political process, I’ve been active in legislative matters at both the state and federal levels for over 10 years now. I’ve had the privilege of working with Republicans and Democrats on dozens of bills covering a variety of issues and most of my efforts have been successful. Most notable amongst them was the work I did on the repair for the Fair Credit Reporting Act with my fellow professionals in the National Council of Investigations and Security Services which took more than 6 years and was completed in December of 2004 when President Bush signed the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act into law. I’ve also helped write State legislation with the help of Representative Leslie Mortimer of the 65th District.

So if you want to send a representative to Lansing who knows business and what makes it tick, who knows how to create jobs, who knows how the Legislature works, who is dedicated to his faith, his family, his community and has served his country in time of need, your choice is clear: A vote for Al Cavasin is a Vote to PUT MICHIGAN BACK TO WORK!
