Cavasin backed by Michigan Restaurant Association in bid for Senate seat
CONCORD -- The Michigan Restaurant Association has endorsed Republican Al Cavasin in his race for for the 19th Michigan Senate District seat, citing his "determination to improve the business climate in Michigan," as a reason for the support.
"I'm honored to receive an endorsement from the Michigan Restaurant Association," Cavasin said. "The job providers represented by the association are the type of entrepreneurs who will help lead the Michigan recovery."
Restaurants are an extremely important component of our economy -- more than 421,000 people are employed in Michigan by the foodservice industry and it contributes more than $12.3 billion a year to our economy.
More than 4,500 foodservice establishments are represented by the MRA.
According to MRA Director of Public Affairs and Legislative Affairs Manager Matt Groen, the association chose Cavasin due to his commitment to protecting the free market, preventing harmful regulations and allowing Michigan's restaurants to flourish.
The association believes that Cavasin will be a "strong pro-business legislator."
"The people of the 19th Senate District know it's time for a change in Lansing and the Michigan Restaurant Association knows it's time for a change in Lansing," Cavasin said. "I hope to go to Lansing to fight for that change."
Cavasin, a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam, heads his own Jackson-based security services firm, the Great Northern Sentry Co. He is a life-long resident of Michigan. He and Linda Cavasin, his wife of 33 years, have two grown sons.
The 19th Senate District comprises Calhoun County and most of Jackson County, including the city of Jackson.
