Local lawmakers endorse Al Cavasin for state Senate
CONCORD – Republican state Senate candidate Al Cavasin announced today two key endorsements from area lawmakers.
Reps. Rick Baxter, R-Concord, and Leslie Mortimer, R-Horton, have endorsed Cavasin, a Jackson businessman, in his race against Democratic incumbent Mark Schauer.
“Al is the right person to represent the people of Jackson and Calhoun counties,” Baxter said. “We need more people like him in the Legislature who bring the business sense and business savvy needed to bring our Michigan out of its single-state recession.”
Mortimer called herself a long-time supporter of Cavasin since he became Mortimer’s first volunteer for her state House campaign.
“Al is a hard worker who’s ready to start getting the job done for us,” Mortimer said. “I’ve always been grateful to him for his efforts for me and for our area. I know Al and he’s focused on improving our community and our state, not looking for other offices to run for.”
Cavasin, a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam, heads his own Jackson-based security services firm, the Great Northern Sentry Co. He is a lifelong resident of Michigan. He received the 2003 Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year award.
The 19th Senate District comprises Calhoun County and most of Jackson County.
