Michigan Senate Republican leader, several other Republican senators endorse Cavasin
CONCORD - Republican state Senate candidate Al Cavasin today announced that he has won the endorsement of Michigan Senate Majority Leader Ken Sikkema, R-Wyoming, as well as endorsements from a number of other sitting Senate Republicans.
“We need people like Al Cavasin in the Michigan Senate to help our state lead the nation in job creation, instead of leading the nation in outbound moving vans,” said Sikkema, who leads the 22-member Senate Republican caucus. “Al's years of experience as a successful businessman will help him understand the need for fundamental change in Michigan 's culture if we are going to capitalize on the new economy.”
Cavasin is running for the 19th Senate District, which comprises Calhoun County and most of Jackson County . The Republican primary date is Aug. 8 and the general election is Nov. 7.
The other Republicans to endorse Cavasin are Sens. Jason Allen of Traverse City, Mike Bishop of Rochester, Valde Garcia of Howell, Beverly Hammerstrom of Temperance, and Wayne Kuipers of Holland.
“I am honored to win the support of Senate Majority Leader Sikkema and other distinguished Senate Republicans,” Cavasin said. “Under Senator Sikkema’s leadership, Senate Republicans have been at the forefront of innovative efforts to foster a better job-creating environment for our state, despite the opposition of the governor and Michigan Democrats like Mark Schauer.”
